The Maserati Ghibli had an eight-cylinder engine whose basic design traced back to a unit that had already debuted in motorsport in 1956 with the Tipo 450S and had been used in the Quattroporte I since 1964. Top speed was given as 270 km/h. Giorgio Giugiaro himself considers the Ghibli GT, in hindsight, his finest creation.
