Mille Miglia unter die R\u00e4der zu nehmen.Wegen einem abgesprungenen Tankdeckel mit \u00fcberschwappendem Treibstoff auf Fahrer und Beifahrer mu\u00dfte das Team in aussichtsreicher Spitzengruppe und nach mehr als der H\u00e4lfte der Strecke leider aufgeben.Der Ausgang des Rennens ist mittlerweile weltbekannt und ging in die Renngeschichte ein. Half of Italy was out and about, eagerly anticipating the national motorsport event.On 1 May 1955, at 7:04 in the morning, the 300 SLR with start number 704 (start number = start time) and its driver Hans Herrmann, together with co-driver Hermann Eger, left the start ramp in Brescia to tackle the roughly 1,600 km route of the 22nd Mille Miglia.Due to a fuel cap popping off and fuel splashing onto the driver and co-driver, the team, sitting in a promising leading group, unfortunately had to retire after more than half the route.The outcome of the race is now world-famous and went down in racing history.
