Das Rennteam von Lancia nahm 1955 an Grossen Preisen von Turin und Pau teil. Ascari gewann das Rennen in Italien souver\u00e4n, in Frankreich lag er bis zwei Runden vor Schluss mit zwei Runden Vorsprung in F\u00fchrung, musste wegen eines technischen Defekts jedoch in die Box &#8211; Jean Behra auf Maserati 250F gewann das Rennen, Ascari wurde noch F\u00fcnfter. Beide Veranstaltungen z\u00e4hlten allerdings nicht nur Weltmeisterschaft, Alberto Ascari konnte trotz des Erfolgs keine Punkte sammeln.<br \/>\nBeim Training zum Grossen Preis von Monaco waren die Mercedes in der Favoritenrolle. Dieser wurden Moss und Fangio auch im Rennen gerecht \u2013 jedoch wurden alle Mercedes-Piloten Opfer von technischen Defekten. So lag in Runde 80 unerwartet Alberto Ascari \u2013 nach dem Ausfall des letzten verbliebenen Mercedes von Stirling Moss \u2013 in F\u00fchrung. Doch ein Fahrfehler Ascari\u00b4s in der Hafenschikane katapultierte seinen Wagen \u00fcber die Rennstrecke und ein halbes Dutzend Strohballen hinaus ins Hafenbecken. Alberto Ascari \u00fcberlebte diesen potenziell t\u00f6dlichen Unfall durch einen beherzten Sprung aus seinem Rennwagen. Kein Geringerer als der griechische Reeder Aristoteles Onassis liess den havarierten Ascari aus dem Meer fischen und dessen erlittene Prellungen auf seiner Yacht versorgen. Das Rennen in Monaco gewann nach knapp drei Stunden v\u00f6llig \u00fcberraschend Maurice Trintigant auf einem Ferrari 625 vor Eugenio Castellotti auf Lancia D50 und Jean Behra auf Maserati 250F.<br \/>\nAnstelle ein Bad in der Menge f\u00fcr einen sich schon sicher abzeichnenden Sieg geniessen zu k\u00f6nnen, musste Ascari mit einem unfreiwilligen Bad im Hafenbecken vorlieb nehmen. Nur wenige Tage sp\u00e4ter ersch\u00fctterte die traurige Nachricht vom Tode des liebenswerten und talentierten Doppelweltmeisters Alberto Ascari die weltweite Rennsportgemeinschaft.
